CLASS ACTIVITIES

Patterns

In Taekwon-Do, patterns are choreographed sets of techniques that simulate fights against opponents. There are 24 patterns in Taekwon-Do for the 24 hours in a day. Students will learn different patterns for their belt grade as they advance in their journey to a Black Belt and beyond.

Sparring

Sparring is free form fighting using the techniques learned to attack or defend against an opponent. All students must be at least a Yellow Stripe belt in order to engage in sparring and must purchase and wear sparring safety gear. In our sparring sessions, the students are taught to make contact but not injure their partners.

We also teach Step Sparring sequences called Ho Sin Sul. These are self-defense techniques teaching you how to release yourself from grabs, block hits, and take down your opponent.

Drills & Board Breaking

Students will learn how to roll backwards and forwards, run up walls, and how to jump high and fly. Students will also do drills on punching bags to focus on using the proper parts of their hands and feet when executing techniques and building power.

Board breaking allows a fun way for students to test out their skills, strength, speed, and accuracy. Students practice breaking boards using all of the different forms of punches, kicks, and strikes. As their abilities grow, we add difficulty by increasing the board strength and number of boards being broken at one time to continue the student’s progression.

Tournaments

Taekwondo is a very individualistic sport and is all about personal development, but tournaments provide a fun and competitive way to measure your progress. We host an End of the Month Tournament every month where students compete in patterns and sparring with their fellow classmates. Though just within our dojang, it provides students with experience in competition and helps prepare them for regional or national tournaments.

Local (between our sister schools), regional and national tournament opportunities will be offered to students. Participation for these tournaments will be on a sign-up basis and may require an additional fee.
